Meeting Time/Location
Meeting time is 9:00 am at the Dairy Queen / Exxon service area, 3275 New Market Rd, Richmond, VA 23231. The tour will depart at approximately 9:30 am.
Come take a ride along Virginia’s famed “Plantation Highway” (VA Route 5) between Richmond and Williamsburg and visit the Jamestown Settlement Interpretive Museum. Participation will be limited. We'll meet at the Dairy Queen / EXXON at the intersection of I-295 and VA Rt 5 near Varina, VA, (I-295 exit 22A).
Jamestown Settlement
The tour will depart the service area no later than 0930 and proceed on a spirited drive down Rt 5 to the Williamsburg area and ultimately to the Jamestown Settlement. The Jamestown Settlement is a museum of 17th-century Virginia history and culture, near the site of the original colony. Discover the story of America’s beginnings through immersive films, gallery exhibits and outdoor re-creations. You’ll learn about the Virginia Indians who occupied the landscape for centuries, the arrival of English colonists to Jamestown in 1607 and the first documented arrival of West Central Africans in 1619, leading to cultural encounters and events that planted the seeds of a new nation., located along the banks of the historic James River, is the place where the United States began.
A no-host lunch is planned at the Jamestown Settelment's large cafe to ensure everyone has an opportunity to take advantage of everything the Settlement museum has to offer.
Return Home
After lunch, tour participants are free to travel as they please to return home. There are several options: backtrack along VA Rt 5, extend your experience by driving into historic Williamsburg, or take the Jamestown Ferry across the river and pick up VA Rt 10 back to VA Rt 106/156, across the Benjamin Harrison Bridge to VA Rt 5 and back to the start point.
The ferry, which is free, is Ferrari friendly with gentle ramps. They do, however, put cars close alongside each other so watchfulness for other car’s doors is necessary.
Cost
Participants are responsible for their own expenses at the Westover Plantation and at the Surry Seafood Company. There is no other charge for this event.
